Prog Rock and Prog Metal have a bad reputation amongst certain rock fans who think songs in these genres can be too pretentious. I mean, what average music listener wants to headbang in 11/16 time? 

But don’t write off all Prog bands quite yet; their songs aren’t always pretentious, and you don’t have to like these genres to enjoy some of the songs from Prog’s biggest players.
