12 Times An Artist Pulled A Lil' Flippity Flop
By Samantha Ferrara
Let’s face it - sometimes musicians get bored recording albums in the same genre over and over.
Enhancing an old sound to create something new and interesting is an important part of being a successful musician. After all, consumers get bored with their favorite artists if they refuse to further develop and reinvigorate their sound - even if some consumers don’t realize this.
Let’s take a look at a few times that musicians took “developing new sounds” or “musical growth” to the next level by completely switching their genre.
Art Garfunkel - From Folk to Standards - “Let’s Fall In Love”
Billy Joel - From Rock to Classical - “Waltz #1 (Nunley’s Carousel)”
Bob Dylan - From Folk to Rock to Christian Rock - “Gotta Serve Somebody”
Rush - From Prog to Rap - “Roll The Bones”
Jewel - From Folk to Pop - “Intuition”
Joni Mitchell - From Folk to Jazz - “Raised on Robbery”
...and then to Standards - “At Last”
Kiss - From Rock to Disco - “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”
Luciano Pavarotti - From Opera to Rock - “Let It Rain”
Neil Peart - From Prog to Jazz - Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert
Pat Boone - From Standards to Rock - “Holy Diver”
